RIP to all the peices I ever owned 🥀

Growing up we had these brown and yellow curtains with a large retro flower print emblazoned all over them, we got our class photos taken in front them with teachers younger than me now, that were coiffed within an inch of their lives.

One teacher always looked so stylish. I have a core memory of her in a mushroom fine knit turtle neck. I can’t remember what else but I’m sure it would have been a similar chic fine knit skirt in a matching neutral tone.

I remember it was sold to me as a bad thing.

“It’s all back in again.”

That all the old stuff comes back and we repeat history.

Now it’s happening to me I can’t think of anything more beautiful. If you are lucky enough to be here to see it come back take a minute to be #blessed. You’ve made it.

My own daughter is currently planning her own outfits for our NY trip centred around my very own MNG chocolate brown leather bomber, bought by me, just a gal with a dream, at Dubai airport as an investment piece. I did not see that the investment would be my daughter wearing it at 13 years old. She looks eleventy times more stylish in it than I ever did. And I love seeing her in it.

Social media has brought the fashion world to a spin. We have access to trends at a much faster rate than we ever have before. This made me feel super smug recently when I predicted the next trend to come back would be skirts and dresses over jeans. Bam. That day. On a stroll round the shops a mannequin donned my picked fashion trend with elegant and grace.

She looked great.

Lucky it’s a trend given half the skirts I would have worn in my twenties have officially entered belt era. Yes we did say that in front of our daughters on a recent outing to a trending op shop here in Paddington. If you are reading this you know who you are.

Another example. Remember those offensive poppers down the side track pants, by Kappa? You know the ones, they’re back too, and chances are I’d probably give them a whirl.

I’ve had almost 20 years to get to know them better.

Let’s talk homewares. If you are scared of wearing retro having it in your home is totally ok. Think carpet cushions al a Sage and Clare or what about a vintage print table cloth courtesy of Bonnie and Neil. I can attest to feeling like a complete 50s housewife, insert cute floral apron here, it even inspired me to make a cake. Unheard off.

Our Australian based designers do this look well. Think Nana cushions and caravan decor, washed out florals with a sprinkling of nostalgia.

If you’re more northern (as in hemisphere) a walk around Liberty London, in person if you’re lucky, or online? Might just be enough to fulfil your vintage dreams. I’m a regular there. I love their blog with a morning coffee.

Thank god we (we as in my friend Jarrod) brought back the ruffle on a sheet. My life has been 20% better since they came back into my life. But if you’re playing with a bigger budget let’s head straight for the mid century modern sideboards and those overhead chrome dome lamps. I’m not an expert on furniture but I know how I would blow the budget, if I had one.

Anyway. Getting to the point of my story caller.

Let’s take a moment for the most amazing fashion. My wardrobe from my twenties. RIP

It’s somewhere, in my mum and dad’s loft maybe?

The fact is.

If it’s retro it’s back, it’s in.

Maybe not now but it will be.

RIP to all the peices I ever owned — let’s hope they are bring some stylish little diva some joy 🥀 somewhere.
