5 movies to watch when you want to feel the love
Growing up in the naughties meant that movies were literally my religion. I was 25 when I hit Melbourne for the first time, and I felt like I was living in a movie.
That’s now over a decade, or so, ago. So it seems apt that rewatching them might re ignite the feelings that I was there for first time around.
If you’ve been feeling kind of stagnant recently, or you just want to rekindle or reclaim some softness. Buckle up as I take you through my top five rom coms for that kind of feeling.
Some roms coms are meant to make you laugh and cry but these ones all hit different.
They made me cry first. And now I love them.
These are all of the Rom Com variety but in no particular order:
I love Rachel McAdams, on every movie set she’s ever set foot in, I’m all in. We need her now more than ever. Where are you Rachel?
After my second babe, I was learning to fall in love again when this movie came out, which made it even better.
Rachel was the gf that made falling in love cool again.
She reminded me how it felt the first time and when I watch it over I’m right back there.
Snaps to Channing in this too, I dare you not to like him, he’s very likeable in this.
Anne you queen. This movie made me realise you didn’t have to be perfect to be loved.
She took her Disney princess resume and trod it into the mud with a twist of her pointed 2000s boot. Dead and buried, extinguish that past.
And she did it great, this is a sensual, super close to home story for anyone who’s ever struggled through pain or trying to make it on your own without no-one’s help.
Gentle reminder. It’s ok to accept help.
Not to be a spoiler alert but I cannot watch this without tears steaming down my face. Is Mark Ruffalo is the safest crush anyone can ever ask for?
Why he so cute and caring. He cracked the code early and is still serving.
Plus, San Francisco?? This apartment, that garden, the view, Reese‘s ‘jeans and a nice top’ repertoire?
Welcome in this feel good flick to embrace your inner damsel and remember why it’s good to feel things sometimes.
I had to include this because it feels like home.
And even if you are watching from a far it somehow also, feels like home.
The cast is a warm hug, if you can get over Gerard Butler (Scottish) trying to be Irish, you also get to enjoy Hilary Swank (you absolute sweetheart), Kathy Bates, Harry Connick Jnr, Lisa Kudrow, an Irish bar, with an Irish hunk or two, and…my favourite ever Christmas song.
That first letter on her thirtieth birthday, her tuxedo solo in the NY apartment, the winter fashion of the early 2000s, and all of the karaoke moments. I need to do karaoke in NYC.
It’s a cheese filled, warm hug winner. I’m sold.
Honestly, if you have forgotten how to love, you have to watch this movie and allow the tears to stream down your face.
They will roll off your cheeks and collect in a pool in your chest until your heart slowly defrosts.
This was the first movie I watched that cracked my medical-menopause-hatred for most men.
Sorry to my husband but also, he should be thankful I came across this movie.
Not the same decade, or era, but still the same feels. All of them.
What’s your thoughts? Have you watched any of these movies? Any you will rewatch?
I hope you’ll let me know.
Ps I love you x
