When you get what you ask for.
New York has always been a dream of mine so to imagine that I’m here finally. I’m in my own New York apartment. Mine for 5 days. I managed to insert myself stage left as the main character.
On our first day we picked bunches of flowers from a street side vendor and of course being close to Halloween— a mini pumpkin. We’ll come back to him later.
I’m a big believer in making a house a home so we quickly made the place feel like ours by brewing a pot of coffee and moving the furniture to suit.
We used Poppy’s Turkish towel as a throw and after lighting a couple of candles it started feeling just right.
I forgot my own top tip of packing incense as the perfect travel companion. So we gave ourselves permission to do it. Candle shopping! But make it New York.
Along with the fresh scents from my pick (the giant cavier) Poppy also picked out an espresso martini tin candle as we just felt NYC is espresso martini. Our candles came from Anthropologie which TBH I was just as excited to be visiting as the big NY landmarks.
Tins are such a great way to take a little bit of you on the road. I parted with a lot of my hard earned cash for these but that’s why I work so hard so tap and off I go!
I fell in love with my bedroom window, I took photos of it in dusk, in morning light, in the early hours with the taxi lights that drove by lighting up the room like a moving night light.
I mostly enjoyed climbing out and sitting on it with the sounds on New York flitting by. With three children we are a lot so we all took turns with a parent to have these little moments.
The night time sounds is something I’ll never forget. Who would have known I would fall asleep to these bed time stories. The sounds of the city.
We stayed at the Beekman Tower built in 1928 on 1st avenue across from the UN precinct with just the right mix of in the city and away from the crazy that you need after a busy day of let’s be real, sensory overload.
With its own Rooftop bar perched on top (blog incoming) this was a great fit for a family travelling. At two weeks in we needed our own space.
We fell asleep to a NY classic “You’ve got mail” and woke up to a Taylor Swift listening party. With her newly dropped single ‘Ophelia’ also the name of our rooftop bar.
“A PRODUCT OF THE 1920S WOMEN'S RIGHTS MOVEMENT, (The Beekman) WAS BUILT BY THE NEW YORK CHAPTER OF THE PANHELLENIC ASSOCIATION AS A CLUBHOUSE AND RESIDENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL WOMEN AFFILIATED WITH GREEK-LETTER SORORITIES.” NEW YORK LANDMARKS PRESERVATION FOUNDATION.
We had five days in New York and honestly it’s never enough. I’m a big believer in believing before you see it. So if you want something you need to start now. Believe it.
I could stay here for quite some time. We stayed at the Beekman Tower booked via Flight centre as part of our world the round trip.
As for the pumpkin…he was not my best work but we had fun! 🎃
